life on board

when we were sailing that day, Marc woke us(the guys) up between 6h00 and 6h30. we had to lift the anchor and chain, unfurl the head sail and lift the main and mizzen sails when we used them, most of the time the head sail was enough in the 30 knots +, and we left the 2 other sails down. the girls tried to look interested by the sailing at the beginning, but in the last 2 weeks they didn't touch a rope.

The navigation was my responsibility because Marc doesn't know how to use his GPS. So I was the one to look on the sailing guide where was the next good anchorage, where is the safe route between the many reefs, shoals, sand bancs, rocks, islands of this area. find the coordinates of the turns and anchorages we will go, and put them in the GPS.

the snorkeling

we snorkeled a lot,
- 2hours at low island,
- a nearly a full day at hope island
- a lot at lizard island
- 2h at morris island.

we saw a lot of fishes, turtles, some sharks

- we snorkeled when we were drunk after a few glasses of rhum at hope island, that's a crazy feeling.
- we snorkeled at night with lights at lizard island, it was full moon and the water was so clear we saw better without light. there is a 3m long shark living there but we didn't saw it in our 1/2 night snorkeling. we came back because I was to stupid, I dived 6m deep with my torch light made waterproof with gray tape. a that depth water came in and shortcut the battery.

we didn't snorkel much on the second part of the trip because the nicest place to snorkel were at the beginning, because of the crocs as well, living more up north, and because we sailed nearly everyday all day long.

the food

Food was very good and healthy

one of the best nearly free meal we had:
- lot of prawns given by a trawler, with mayo.
- sushis (raw tuna Daniel caught) with soy sauce and wasabi
- coocked tuna, with rice (left by persons in a hotel)
- mango sauce, made with mangoes taken in a tree in cooktown
- bananas also from cooktown.

so we paid only for the sauces.

we ate a lot of fish, and vegetables, because Marc used to be a chef, and likes to make something he call a curry: lot of vegies cooked together in water: brocholi, pumpkin, potatoes, onions, a bit of everything, sometime with pastas or rice, and meat or fish, he makes it spicy


we ate crepes twice, once for breakfast, once for lunch, with ham, cheese and eggs.

Cati is Daniel's girlfriend and Hannah is Eric's girlfriend. they are all 19 years old, german and came to australia for 6 month after they finished school and before their studies.

Marc is ozi (australian),he lives on boats for 12 years, he has been from sydney to cap york.

and most importantly the dolphin, a 50 feet catamaran (18metres), very old and fucking heavy.

les 3 dernieres semaines de septembre, j'ai bosse sur un chantier d'agrandissement du resort le plus cher de port douglas. mon boulot c'etait de faire le systeme d'irrigation super de luxe des jardins et espaces verts.
sprinklers qui se retractent dans le sol quand ils sont pas utilises, sprinklers tournant qui n'arrosent pas les murs ou les routes parcequ'ils ne fonctionnent que sur un certain angle (270, 180, ou 90 degres), tuyaux gouttes a gouttes dans les massifs, le tout controle par ordinateur a la goutte pres.
il y avait plusieurs parties: creuser les tranchees a la pelle pour enterrer les tuyaux, la ou la machine a tranchee ne peux pas passer: terrain en pente ou sablonneux. la deuxieme partie c'etait de placer les tuyaux principaux, les connecter aux valves electroniques et manuelles, la 3eme partie c'etait de mettre les tuyaux goutte a goutte dans les massifs, et des sprtinklers pour l'herbe, ceci pour chaque maison et espace verts.
mon coequipier/boss Daniel etait tres sympa, il me disait toujours de prendre mon temps, de faire semblant de bosser si j'avais fini ce que j'avais a faire avant le temps imparti, et me payait tous les jours une heure de plus que ce que je bossais. genre on oublie que j'ai pris une pause d'une demi heure et on marque que je fini a 15h30 quand on est deja parti a 15h00.

j'ai demissionne le jour ou j'ai su que marc le prprio du catamaran dolphin partait pour cape york le jour suivant.

les requins

une amie m'a envoye des photos qu'elle a prise au low island le 15 septembre:




moi quand je vois ca, je prend mon masque et mon tuba et je saute dans l'eau. c'est une amie qui a pris la photo. j'etais dans l'eau a ce moment
y'en avait 2 de 2metres de longs, ils avaient plus peur de moi que moi d'eux.
il tournaient autour du bateau parcequ'on jetait du pain dans l'eau pour que les batfish viennent et les requins les ont suivi.

pti bonjour de cap york

un pti bonjour vite fait d'un des points internet les plus perdu d'australie: dans la petite ville aborigene de Sasia, a quelques km de cap york.

on viens d'arriver apres 21 jours de navigation, et plus de 1000km.
je suis en grande partie responsable du fait que l'on soit arrive entier, parceque c'est moi qui ait fait la navigation (avec GPS non traceur de carte et carte papier) entre les reefs, iles, rocks de la region.
on a vu plein de dauphins, tortues, requins, poissons...
on a vecu avec 5 litres d'eau douce par jour et par personne.
en 21 jours, on a du en avoir 2 a moins de 20 noeuds, et la derniere semaine, jamais moins de 35 noeuds, 24/24.
j'ai kite que 2 fois, parceque j'ai pete ma board en 2, a la moitie du voyage, je l'ai reparee, mais pas essaye depuis.
j'ai kite dans la daintree river, super spot de vitesse, super pas prudent aussi parceque c'est plein de crocos
et une fois dans le lagon de lizard island, c'est absolument paradisiaque, j'y retournerais c'est sur, mais j'ai casse ma board la bas.

bref c'etait merveilleux.
maintenant faut que je trouve un moyen de rentrer: en 4x4, en bateau ou en avion.
